Priestly Ordination in Klosterneuburg
On Sunday, December 30, 2012, six months and a day after his ordination to the diaconate on June 29, 2012, Father Gabriel became the newest priest of Stift Klosterneuburg.

Father Gabriel prepared a bilingual booklet for the ordination. On the cover is the image of the king-priest, Melchizedek, from one of the artistic treasures of Stift Klosterneuburg, the Verdun altar.

The altar boys (on the left, Richard Thill from Saint Patrick’s Parish in Glen Cove) and the Deacon wait while the bishop incenses the altar at the start of the liturgy.

Bishop Murphy lays hands on the ordinand in the apostolic gesture by which the priesthood is passed on.

All the priests present also lay on hands as a gesture of the collegiality of the priesthood. Here, Dom Clemens prays for Dom Gabriel.

After the Laying on of Hands, Bishop Murphy offers the Consecratory Prayer which completes the ordination.

His hands having been anointed with Sacred Chrism by Bishop Murphy, Father Gabriel here wears the Maniturgium, a linen cloth which will absorb the Holy Oil. According to an ancient tradition, the newly ordained priest presents the Maniturgium to his mother, who one day will be buried with it in her hands, a sign that she has given her son to the Church as a priest.

Kneeling before the Bishop, Father Gabriel received the chalice and paten, with which he will every day offer the Holy Sacrifice.

At the end of “a Mass well sung” the Provost presented Bishop Murphy with a Golden Leopoldi Pfennig, a coin traditionally given to those who have made pilgrimage to the Saint’s tomb.

Dom Ambrose, bearing the Chapter Cross, leads the solemnly professed members of the Community in the recessional.
Father Gabriel celebrated Masses of Thanksgiving in Austria, first, for his family, in English at the Verdun altar, then that same day, in the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady on December 31, 2012 in Germany, with Dom Benedict preaching a bilingual homily, and finally, on the December 6th, 2013, for the Solemnity of the Epiphany at the parish of St Leopold in Donaufeld, where Dom Josef and Dom Maximilian, are pastor and parochial vicar respectively.

Father Gabriel conveys his great happiness in his unexpected discovery of Long Island as part of God’s plan for him and his service as a priest.
