Dom Gabriel’s Ordination to the Diaconate on June 29, 2012

The new deacon with the Americans in attendance

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bernt Markus Eidvsig, bishop of Oslo, ordained Dom Gabriel to the order of deacons on the Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul during an evening Mass in the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady at Stift Klosterneuburg. The joyous occasion featured beautiful German hymns and Gregorian chant. In addition to members of the community, Dom Gabriel’s parents, uncle and a few cousins made the long journey from Wisconsin to participate in the festivities.

The chapter

Dom Gabriel entered the community on August 27, 2006. Four years later he professed solemn vows on August 28, 2010. Now he had taken his penultimate step to the ordination to the priesthood. Dom Gabriel started pastoral work almost immediately. He is now one of the three canons of Klosterneuburg serving in Glen Cove at the parishes of St. Patrick and St. Rocco and residing at the Canonry of St. Leopold.

Dom Aegydius and Dom Hugo congratulate the new deacon.

Dom Gabriel thanks the guests and Community for joining in the celebration of this happy day before he blesses the food for the first time as a deacon.

Dom Gabriel is joined by Father Matthew Kauth, who offered his Mass of Thanksgiving on the following morning, the feast of the martyrs of the Church of Rome, at which the new deacon preached his first homily.

DomĀ Gabriel now serves as a deacon in the parishes of Saint Patrick on the Hill and St. Rocco in Glen Cove, New York. In the coming months, Dom Gabriel will gain much experience in preparation for his ordination to the priesthood as he works with Dom Daniel and Dom Elias. Besides the extensive pastoral work, a full rotations of daily Masses, Sunday Masses, funerals, weddings, wakes, committals and baptisms and the six day long feast of St. Rocco (July 31-August 5), Dom Gabriel will learn about the administration of a parish, religious education and other practical aspects of American parish life.

Please continue to pray for him, and to pray for vocations to the priesthood, so the Church may have the priests she requires to fulfill the missionary mandate of the Lord Jesus Christ.
